Failure is the Mother of Success: What My Neurodivergent Mind Taught Me About Human Errors and Text Messages

Introduction

For years I thought failure meant I was doing it wrong.

As a neurodivergent mind, every mistake felt like proof: too sensitive, too direct, didn’t read the room.

I’d replay text messages at 2am.

“Did they mean it like that?”

“Was that sarcasm?”

“Should I have replied differently?

“Then I realized something:

Failure is the mother of success.

Not because it feels good. Because it’s data. And the most important data comes from human error — ours, and the emotional patterns we see in others.

1. Why Failure Hits Different For Neurodivergent People

Most people get feedback and move on. My brain wants to analyze, pattern-match, and future-proof.

Failure used to feel like shame. Like I missed a rule nobody gave me.So I over-explained. I over-apologized. I shrank. But that was me trying to survive, not grow. The shift happened when I stopped asking “What’s wrong with me?”And started asking “What is this teaching me?”

2. Human Error Is The Lesson

The human error isn’t a flaw. It’s feedback.

Every time I ignored a red flag in a text — that was data.

Every time I people-pleased in a reply — that was data.

Every time I chose peace over proving my point — that was data too.Without the error, there’s no pattern to see.

Without the pattern, there’s no way to do better next time.

3. Reading What’s Between The Lines

Here’s where my neurodivergent brain became a strength. I don’t just study behavior patterns.

I read the emotional tricks people use in text messages.

The sarcasm.

The guilt trips disguised as jokes.

The indirect digs:

“Not to be rude but…

“The silent treatment followed by “you’re overthinking.”

“That’s data too.

My brain is wired to notice tone shifts, word choices, and inconsistencies.

I used to use that to fix people.

Now I use it to protect my peace.

3 questions I now ask after a triggering text:

1. Does this make me feel bigger or smaller?

2. Is this a pattern I’ve seen before?

3. What would I tell a friend if they got this text? If the answer is “smaller, yes, and set a boundary” — that’s the lesson.

4. The “Do Better Next Time” Framework

Next time you or someone else makes a human error:

1. Acknowledge: What happened? No blame. Just facts.

2. Extract: What pattern is this? What did my body feel reading it?

3. Apply: What’s 1% I’ll do differently next time? One boundary. One pause. One less explanation.

Success is born when we collect the lesson and stop repeating the cycle.

Closing

I’m not aiming for perfect.

I’m aiming for aware.

My neurodivergent mind taught me that failure isn’t proof I’m broken.

It’s proof I’m learning how to read myself, other people, and the patterns in between.

So make the human error.

Read the text.

Read the pattern.

Learn the lesson.

Do better next time.

That’s how failure becomes the mother of success.

Why Boundaries Are Important + Why People Hate Them.

Growing up in a dysfunctional home, you were taught that love meant having no limits. That saying “no” made you a bad daughter, son, sibling, or Christian.

So now the idea of boundaries feels wrong. But here’s the truth: boundaries are biblical, healthy, and necessary.

1. Why Boundaries Are Important.

Boundaries are not walls to keep people out. They are gates that decide what gets in.

Boundaries protect your peace. They protect your relationship with God. They protect the healing you’re doing.

Without boundaries, you keep getting drained by the same people, the same conversations, the same chaos. With boundaries, you can love people without losing yourself.

Jesus had boundaries. He walked away from crowds. He said no to demands. He spent time alone to pray. If the Son of God needed boundaries, you do too.

2. Why People Hate Your Boundaries.

When you start setting boundaries in a narcissistic or dysfunctional family, people will react. And it won’t be pretty.

Here’s why:

  • it exposes the dysfunction. Your “no” shows them the old pattern doesn’t work anymore.

  • It removes their control. Narcissistic people are used to access without permission. Boundaries take that away.

  • It forces accountability. When you stop over-functioning, they have to deal with their own mess.
  • It makes them uncomfortable.Healing makes sick people uncomfortable because it reflects what they refuse to face.

So they’ll call you selfish. Cold. Prideful. “You’ve changed.” You have changed. And that’s the point.

3. What Boundaries Actually Look Like

Boundaries aren’t about punishing people. They’re about protecting you.

It sounds like:

  • “I’m not available for that conversation.”

  • “I won’t be spoken to that way.”

  • “I love you, but I can’t do that anymore.”

  • Silence. Distance. Time away. Boundaries with love still say: I care about you. But I care about me and my peace too.

Closing Thought

The people who loved the old, wounded version of you will hate the healed version of you.

That doesn’t mean you did something wrong. It means your boundaries are working.

God didn’t save you just to go back to being everyone’s emotional punching bag. He saved you to be whole. And whole people have boundaries.

You are allowed to protect your peace.

What is a Cycle Breaker? Recognizing and Stopping Toxic Patterns

If you grew up in a dysfunctional narcissist family, you’ve probably heard some version of this:

“That’s just how we are.”

“Family is family.”

“Don’t talk about it.”

But deep down you knew something wasn’t right. That feeling you had? That was discernment. And it’s the first step to becoming a Cycle Breaker.

1. Recognizing the Patterns

A cycle breaker is someone who looks at what was “normal” in their home and says: This is not normal. It’s not normal to be manipulated. It’s not normal to walk on eggshells. It’s not normal to have love tied to performance.

Recognizing the cycle means you stop calling dysfunction “just personality” or “just family drama.” You name it. Narcissistic patterns thrive in silence. The moment you see it, the power starts to break.

2. Choosing to Take Responsibility

This is the hard part. A cycle breaker stops blaming and starts healing. Not because the abuse was your fault — it wasn’t. But because if you don’t deal with the wounds, you’ll pass them on.

Taking responsibility looks like:

– Going to therapy

-Praying and asking God to heal the places that hurt

– Learning new ways to communicate, set boundaries, and love

You choose to do the work your parents didn’t do.

3. Exercising Spiritual Authority

You can’t break a spiritual cycle with willpower alone. Dysfunction is often generational. It’s a pattern that’s been handed down.

That’s why cycle breakers pray. They use God’s authority to break what’s been in the family line for years. They speak truth over lies. They set boundaries that honor God and protect their peace. They declare: It stops with me.

4. Helping Others Break Free

Here’s the beautiful part: your healing isn’t just for you. When you break the cycle, you create a new path for your kids, your siblings, your friends.

People who grew up in dysfunction become the safest people. Why? Because you know what pain feels like, so you don’t inflict it. You become someone who helps others recognize the pattern too.

Your survival becomes someone else’s survival guide.

Closing Thought

Being a cycle breaker is lonely at first. You’ll be called “too sensitive,” “dramatic,” or “the one who changed.

But you didn’t change for nothing. You changed so the next generation wouldn’t have to hurt the same way.

You weren’t placed in that family by accident. You were positioned to end what they couldn’t.

It stops with you.

Recovery + Reset = Loading Up with Veg delight

Yesterday I had the chicken masala set at the Taste of India restaurant.

Rich gravy, big flavor, chicken on the bone. It was exactly what I was craving. It was also heavy. That deep, slow-digest kind of full.

Taste of India restaurant Johor bahru storefront at night.

This morning I had roti canai which I had to take turmeric tonic mix cinnamon and lemon to cleanse my internal organs to reset.

I know the pattern by now. Roti = tasty, but for me it means congestion and sluggishness after.

Tumeric black pepper cinnamon lemon honey tonic for roti recovery

turmeric + black pepper, cinnamon, lemon, honey in hot water. It doesn’t erase the roti, but it helps my body feel less inflamed. My internal reset button.

Right now I’m loading up with a veg combo meal to recover and reset, location: Fix Banana Leaf at Mid Valley Southkey.

Fix Banana Leaf veg combo set with basmati rice Mid Valley Southkey

Basmati rice instead of white. A banana leaf with dhal, rasam, curry, two veg sides, chutney, pickle, papadom. No deep-fry overload, just fiber and flavor.

Hot ginger tea, without sugar, to keep things moving. Total: RM24.90 ≈ $7.90 SGD. For a full set + drink in a clean, spacious mall, that’s good value.

My 5-Star Google Maps review of Fix Banana Leaf

The space helps too. AC, plants, high ceilings, room to breathe. You can actually eat slow here instead of rushing.

Mid Valley Southkey is huge, so I’ll walk a few rounds before the drive home. Digestion + steps = the final part of the reset.

The EQ Gap: How Families, Workplaces, and Society Teach Us to Disconnect

Introduction

Why We Suck at People When It Matters Most

“If you’ve ever gone quiet to keep the peace, or snapped because someone wouldn’t let you speak– this is for you.”

We’re surrounded by advice on how to “be better at communication.” Yet somehow, we still shut down at the dinner table, freeze in meetings when someone talks over us, and scroll past the hard conversations online.

The problem isn’t that we don’t care. It’s that we never learned how to use emotional intelligence when it’s actually hard — with people who push, control, or manipulate.

This is what I call the EQ gap. It shows up everywhere we live:

  • At home, where old family patterns make you go quiet or explode
  • At work, where power dynamics turn collaboration into control
  • In society, where being loud gets mistaken for being right

The gap hits hardest if you’re shy, conflict-averse, or just don’t like being told what to do. Difficult people force you into two bad choices: fold and lose yourself, or shut down and lose the connection.

But you can’t avoid these people. And you don’t have to become ruthless to deal with them.

This book is about closing that gap. Not by becoming “nicer,” but by getting clear, staying steady, and learning how to protect yourself without burning bridges. Because real emotional intelligence isn’t tested with easy people. It’s tested with the ones who make you want to walk away.

What’s one situation where you feel that EQ gap the most? Drop it in the comments — I’ll tackle the most common ones in the next chapter.

Chennai To MK Part 2

I enjoyed a nice evening as it was about 7pm local time. I took a slow walk to capture more images and experience in the heart of Chennai.

The streets are filled with retailers and restaurants. Cash is 👑. Visa surely it’s acceptable but it’s best to carry some petty cash if you’re out for some snacks and shopping.

Langkawi Day 2: 14 Nov 2025

As I start my day I was looking forward to swim at the beach. I was so glad because it was not as crowded. I took a slow walk as it wasn’t as near but it’s a good thing to burn some of calories.

There wasn’t many people but the view and the ☀️ was perfect for me to swim and cool off.

I had placed my belongings right center and was glad that it was safe.
